Tonight, the US lost in penalty kicks to Japan in the Final for the 2011 World Cup. After two dynamic goals by Alex Morgan and Abby Wambach, the US and Japan went into two 15 minute over times tied at 2-2 and then on to PKs which Japan won 3-1. Although our hearts break for the US WNT, I refuse to let our hearts stay there.
The entire World Cup was a magical event. Not only for America's darlings, but for all of us at home that watched, followed, cheered, tweeted, facebooked and blogged about it. We celebrated when you did, cried when you did, cheered when you did and will remember it with such joy as it marked history in our family timeline. Friends who never watched a minute of soccer, willingly watched with excitement to see the US advance. They made sure I knew they were behind you. Behind me. Behind us. It is recorded in our summer pictures, on DVR and etched in our hearts to forever be a part of who we are as The Banks Family.
Greg, to be a part of such an incredible team is far beyond anything I could have asked or imagined. God is so good to have allowed our family to have a front row seat to this beautiful event and get to see you on the sidelines of history. How could I ask for more than that? We're so proud. Regardless of the score. Now your family is looking ahead to another kind of victory...because for 34 days 23 hours and 23 minutes, we've been sitting on the edge of our seats in crazy anticipation - not just biting our nails with each goal - but awaiting your return... and in 12 more hours...we will have you home. That kind of victory, to me, is so, so sweet.
Team USA - thank you for a wonderful summer. We will never forget it.
Greg Banks - thank you for giving it your all. I love you with everything I am.
Hurry home.... we'll be waiting.

Tara, we all echo your thoughts, no matter the score Greg is a 'hero' to all your friends & family. Our little family room was full of GFI'ers cheering everyone on and while we wished for the end to have been different, the Team gave it everything and we're proud of them all for truly demonstrating the spirit of what we really are as American's ... tenacious, focused and gracious ...
Welcome Home Greg!!! <3
Greg, we are incredibly, incredibly proud of you and the team. We are also incredibly proud of your "home" team (Tara and the boys) that championed your every move. We love you all so very much!
