Have you ever just been so proud?....

Two weekends ago, I had the distinct privilege of sitting in the pouring rain in Cary, NC with my husband and oldest son as we watched the US Women's National Soccer Team beat up on the Australian National Team. No, having two kids hasn't made me delusional (I only see those pink spots on the talking giraffes every once in a while now). The reason it was such an honor was actually what happened after the game. We were standing, soaking wet, at the railing with all of the other fans who were waiting to have their gear and programs, etc. signed by the best players the US has to offer when it started. As soon as the players saw Greg standing at the rail it was like HE was the famous one: "GREG!!! We didn't know you were going to be here!! Is this your family?? Are you coming to Korea? We're so glad to see you!" (hugs, lots of smiles) Then the players started handing jerseys, water bottles and anything else they could get their hands on to my son. Briana Scurry (insert every accolade and achievement for a long-standing National Team goal keeper here) looked at the jersey and then asked Ethan, "Do you want me to sign it?" Ethan was so star struck, he couldn't say anything. He just stared blankly at Briana and Greg said,
"Hand Bri the jersey, buddy."
That's when it happened... the fans standing all around took one look at this scene playing out - the PLAYERS coming to see Greg and handing HIM stuff - and you could tell they were wondering if this handsome guy decked out in US Soccer gear was someone they were supposed to know! It was such a moment for me... seeing my husband being honored, by obvious camaraderie and respect, from a group of women that, in all actuality, few people get to know. And my husband knows them well. I was so proud of the fact that Greg's been able to be a part of the sports medicine team for them for the past 2 1/2 years and that he's had numerous opportunities to travel with them, home and abroad. I was so honored that he wanted me to meet them and that he was very honest about making the decision not to go to Korea with them in June because he needed to put his family first. I can't remember a time being more proud of Greg, of what he's accomplished and how God has blessed him. It was an amazing weekend - Ethan and I will never forget it.

Wow...that brought tears to my eyes! Our husbands work so hard that it truly is cool to them get accolades by others besides us. What a special moment!

Genesis 2:18 & 24 Loosely paraphrased... And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I'll make a help meet for him...

... and they shall be one flesh.

Greg IS a fantastic man with a great influence on his family and others...but he could not have done it alone. He is what he is because the "rest of his flesh" complements and completes him so wonderfully. Congratulations to both of you! I'm so glad this was a great event for all of you.
