The beginning of 'Why?'....

Brody crossed a threshold tonight at dinner that all children cross: "Why?"
I remember when Ethan was just about Brody's age, following up every request/question/comment of his parents for a solid 5-6 months with "Why?"... not a defiant "Why?", not a whiny "Why?"... just a "Why?" from an inquisitive almost 3 year old that said, "Hey, I'm new to this thinking and processing thing and I've got a lot of questions." A little brain that simply wanted to know "Why?".
Sometimes we had the answers: "Because paint will stain your clothes, " or "Because gravity was created to keep you on the ground, " or sometimes we even had the "Moral Reason Why" (as we have taught and been taught to answer): "Because the Bible teaches us that patience is a fruit of the Spirit." Sometimes, however, I wanted to scream with all of my might and quote a painting that's in my dear friend's kitchen: "Because I'm the Mommy, THAT'S Why!!"
Tonight, over a late dinner, at 8:03PM, 2 years, 9 months, and 8 days old, when told, "You may not have a piece of zucchini bread until your sandwich is finished, " Brody looked at me out of the corner of his eye, tilted his head slightly, smiled and answered, "Why?"
And so it begins..... :)

So cute! One of our favorite responses to the 'Why' question when it goes on and on is, "Why ask Why? Eat peanut butter pie!" Yes, strange, I know. But that's who we are. "Why?" you ask? Oh, go eat some peanut butter pie Banks family!

We love little Brody. Keep asking the questions little man. It makes you so smart!
