Waiting on the Lord is hard. So often moving requires standing still. Pressing forward requires stepping back. In order to prepare our feet for action, we have to, or are forced to, rest.
Like an F-16 screaming across a cloudless sky, the seeing and the hearing don't always match. However, it's as if the Lord, who can do as He pleases, flips the phenomenon of science backwards so that it's not uncommon to hear the Lord long before you see Him move. We sense that still small voice, or crashing cymbal, as it may be, but in order to fully grasp what it is He has in mind, we have to rely on the sound of His voice which possibly is only a fading memory ringing in our ears. Often, even the jet stream of His presence has escaped us... and all we are left with is the cloudless sky. It is then we begin the process of the wait.
"Lord, I KNOW I heard you. Where are you? What will you teach me in this time? I want what you have for me - what you spoke to me... or greater! - but it's been a long time. It's taking all I've got to muster any sense of faith to keep believing you for it."
Then....
out of the "clear blue" the Lord does show up and we are able to piece together the beauty He's been crafting all along. Right on time. As if the speed of sound and the speed of light were one in the same. Perfect timing.
Waiting on the Lord is hard... but oh so worth it.
